In this post we look at the foods which are good for dogs and are ok for dogs to eat as treats. In part 2 'Foods that are Harmful for Dogs' we’ll take a look at the foods dogs should definitely avoid!
Foods That Are Safe For Dogs To Eat
So you’re eating your dinner and your little friend is sat quietly next to your chair giving you those puppy dog eyes and you simply cannot resist giving them a little scrap of food from your plate. You may be surprised to know however that some of the food we eat is also good for our dogs. It can really boost their health if you add it to their regular dog food diet.
Apples
Apples are a lovely crunchy treat for your dog. They are also a great source of vitamins A and C as well as fibre. The pips are harmful to dogs however as they contain cyanide, so make sure you remove the core.
Bananas
Blueberries
Cheese
Cooked Chicken
Eggs
Melon
Packed full of Vitamin C and B6, potassium and fibre melon makes a super healthy snack for your canine friend. Cantaloupe and water-melon are probably best, but remember to remove the pips from the water melon. Studies have shown that cantaloupe melon can help prevent cataracts.
Oatmeal
Peanut Butter
I haven’t found a dog yet who doesn’t like peanut butter, and the good news is that it is safe for dogs, and a wonderful treat. It is a great source of good fats, protein and Vitamins B and E. Always look for a natural or organic peanut butter that has no added salt or sugar.Pumpkin
Cooked Salmon
Yoghurt
A good source of protein and calcium yoghurt is a great food for your dog. Look out for one which has no sugar or artificial sweeteners. If your doggy is a little overweight look for fat free varieties which are also free from all fat substitutes.
